Lash extensions vs lash lift: One of my favorite things to educate my clients on is the difference between lash extensions and a lash lift and tint. I am a firm believer that extensions are not for everyone. Curious to know which is best for YOU? Read on!
Whats the difference?
Lash extensions are individual, synthetic hairs that are attached to 1 single natural lash at either a 1:1 ratio (classic) or several extensions to one lash (volume, hybrid, mega volume, wet set, angel set etc)
These grow out with your natural lashes and must be filled/removed replaced every 2-3 weeks. Some people will have slow growing lashes and great retention and may get away with 3 weeks and some have quicker lash growth requiring more frequent fills. Things like lifestyle, health conditions, medications and how you sleep can affect retention resulting in lash extensions falling out quicker than normal.
Lash Lift and Tint is a perm for the natural lashes which lasts 6-8 weeks. A lash lift will not add volume or length to the natural lash, although it will make them more noticeable. The lash lift will make the natural lash look more lifted and curled while the tint will make them black which is a nice change for blondies!
Maintenance
Lash lifts do not require maintenance and mascara and other makeup can be used on the lash.
Extensions require fills every 2-3 weeks. You must wash the extensions multiple times a week with lash extensions shampoo.
Restrictions
You cannot wear mascara on the extensions and must be careful of the products and makeup removers used on and near the eyes as any oil based products will break down the lash adhesive resulting in poor retention. You cannot sleep on your face or touch the extensions frequently.
Lash lift there are no restrictions.
Life Style
Those who frequently work out, where a lot of makeup, frequently touch the eyes may experience poor retention with extensions while these things will not affect a lash lift.
Look
While lash extensions can be applied very naturally, a lash lift is the most natural as it doesn't apply anything additional to your lash while enhancing your natural lash for a beautiful, subtle result. On the other hand if you are looking for more volume (thickness/density), more volume or a much more noticeable look extensions will be your best bet.
